AirPods problem

My left AirPod doesn’t play audio through it, it’s as if it only has one AirPod because when I take out the left one it doesn’t connect but the right one does connect

iPad, iPadOS 17

why does my left AirPods only work when I dont have my right are pod in my ear my left AirPods works when I am just using it but the second I put my right airpod in, the audio goes to the right one.
