Keynote won't open a downloaded file

I am trying to take notes on my ipad air using downloaded presentations from Canvas student. However, although I am able to view these files they are greyed out and will not let me access the actual presentation. For my format of note taking I need to be able to open the presentation in keynote and edit it but it is not letting me. What could be the problem?
