external screen identified but black video

Hi! I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2017, running macOS Ventura 13.6.3. Until today, I used an external adapter to connect my Mac to an external monitor via VGA. Now, I wanted to try using an HDMI-VGA cable to connect them. As the title suggests, the second monitor is identified by the Mac, but it's not showing any video. The cursor can travel between monitors, but nothing is displayed.

The old cable (VGA-VGA) still works. I'm confident that the cable is functional because I tested it with a Lenovo, and the monitor works perfectly. I've restarted the Mac and updated it. I've also attempted to change to various resolutions, but I can't get it to work. I would appreciate any help.

Bye,

Normally when an external display is connected to a MacBook the external display looks similar to the screen on the computer. That is you can see your folders or wallpaper, the displays might even show the exact same thing and be mirrored.

If nothing is showing up at all then it sounds like a cable problem(probably the multiple types of connectors usb-C > HDMI > VGA)

If there is however something that is visible on the external display it might be something else.
