iPhone 15 Pro Max unlocked vs carrier so confused help please

Hi

i I was looking at purchasing a new iPhone 15 Pro Max and want to use my Apple Card for financing. It’s not letting me purchase on financing without choosing my carrier. I usually just buy the phones with no carrier selected as I have been told that is the better option. Now you can’t finance unless you choose a carrier. I do use Verizon and have no plans on switching from them. I AM NOT FINANCING THRU VERIZON I want to use my Apple Card.

Can someone please explain what the difference is between the two phones? Does it matter if it’s tied to a carrier when I want to sell the phone in the future? Am I really tied to the carrier if financing thru my Apple Card? Any input appreciated

Hello salf777,

When you purchase an iPhone using Apple Card Monthly Instalments, you have to choose which carrier you would like to connect your phone to. You're still using your Apple Card, but you're just connecting your new iPhone to a carrier.

An unlocked smartphone is a phone that isn't tied to a specific carrier or contract. When you sell it, the person who buys it can connect it to whatever Cellular Carrier they want.

With a Carrier Locked phone, you can only use a specific Cellular Carrier on that phone. However, you can get your locked iPhone unlocked by your carrier: How to unlock your iPhone for use with a different carrier - Apple Support
