error message - Mac mail - Sonoma 14.2.1

I get an error message - unable to verify account name or password - when I try to add my gmail account to Mac mail running Sonoma 14.2.1 Confirmed user name and password are correct for web based Gmail.

Mac Email Whenever I attempt to send an e-mail I get a request box headed 'outlook.com' saying ''unable to verify account name or password'. This has only started in the last couple of days. Also. I get the same message when I attempt to create a new e-mail account. My software version is Catalina What do I need to do to fix this? I am not a computer wizard.
