"screen time" request hangs on macos

since I've upgraded my kids to iPads using iOS 17, screen time requests (such as request to install an app from the app store) now come as iMessages (which is not ideal compared to the "screen time" dedicated notification I used to have, but so be it...)

on iOS devices, I can read and approve (or decline) such request just fine, but on macOS, the message appears but never gives me the opportunity to approve/decline: the message only shows the requested app icon, a spinning wheel and the "Loading..." message.

And it won't load properly no matter what (restart message app, or the whole laptop, the message only keeps loading forever)

Any idea how to fix this?

or even better, how to revert to having dedicated notification for such requests instead of them going via the message app ?

"screen-timed" iOS device is running iOS 17.2 and macbook is running macOS 14.2.1

This is still happening on Sonoma 14.3.1. Every time I run Messages, the AskToBuyRequest extension hangs which causes the entire Messages app to hang. I believe this has been true since pre-Sonoma. I send the crash report several times a day and have seen countless threads like this here and in other forums and still this seemingly trivial hang is not fixed.
