Is it safe to use CleanMyMac app?

No, it's practically considered malware by most experienced users here.

You won't find OnyX in the App Store. It performs a lot of functions that the App Store prohibits any available app from doing. Not bad, just not allowed to be in the App Store.

As den.thed said, it has little use anymore for cleaning chores, and was never really its main purposes to start with.

Everything OnyX does is achieved by running Unix commands in the background. In other words, they're all commands anyone could run in Terminal if you know how to do it.

I still do use OnyX myself, but only for a few simple things. Such as, the default screen shot adds the date to the file name and saves the screen shot with a shadow if you selected a Finder window. I turn both of those off. It can also be very handy to capture the mouse cursor in a screen shot, and you can turn that on. I also turn off window zooming so instead of folders sliding in and out as you open and close them, they simply pop open and closed with no animation. Basically, I only tweak visual parameters to speed the GUI up, or just do things to my preference.

From my own experience, it is really unnecessary app when you have trusted and free OnyX + App Cleaner. Yes, it has great UI, but I won't pay $35 for only one year subscription.
