Two Time Capsules

I have two Time Capsules:

(1) 2TB Airport Time Capsule Model A1409 4th Gen.

(2) 2TB Airport Extreme Time Capsule Model A1408 5th Gen.

I originally had (1) as a backup to my iMac but now I want to use the hard drive on (2) to backup that iMac. I will use (1) to back up two laptops instead since they are in the same room.

    1. is connected via Ethernet to the Arris G36 Wi-Fi Cable Modem/Router Combo.
    2. is connected wirelessly (like the rest of my Airport Express devices) but I can't access that hard drive in Time Machine. The only Backup disks that show up are the (1) hard drive and an external Seagate hard drive (which is not large enough for a backup) that is connected via USB to my iMac.

How do I set this up?

Thank you

Time Capsule

Ideally, you would want the 5th Gen Time Capsule to connect directly to the Arris modem/router using an Ethernet cable connection.....just like the 4th Gen Time Capsule is connected. Is that a possibility?

If you want the 5th Gen Time Capsule to connect using a wireless connection, it must be configured to "Extend a wireless network"....and....since it cannot connect using wireless to the Arris wireless signal, it must be connected to the Wi-Fi signal that the 4th Gen Time Capsule is providing.

So, the first checkpoint here would be to make sure that the 4th Gen Time Capsule is providing a wireless network signal. Then, you can set up the 5th Gen Time Capsule to connect to the 4th Gen signal using a wireless connection. Because both the 4th Gen and 5th Gen Time Capsule will be setup to operate in Bridge Mode, they will be on the same main network as the Arris modem/router.

Post back if you need more instructions.
