Can I Airplay to Apple TV on Ethernet?
Can I airplay from my iPhone or iPad to my Apple TV if my Apple TV is connected via Ethernet? I don't see a way to have a hardwired and wifi connection at the same time.

Yes you can. Most consumer routers can bring the wired and wireless home network parts together as one logical network, where devices on wireless can communicate with devices on the wired network (and vise versa). With the correct router settings, it should be completely transparent to devices.
The Apple TV box can do Wi-Fi or ethernet, not both at the same time. Either choice is good, but ethernet has its advantages.

It seems to connect. I get a black screen with the time line of the video on the bottom from 00:00 to the end but right after the 00:00 is red circle with a slash and it never plays.
That is probably due to content restrictions or file incompatibility, or other incompatibility.
Exactly what are you trying to stream using AirPlay? Is it video from an app (which one?), or from the web, or from a file synced or downloaded to your iPhone?
This behavior (red circle with a slash) has been reported before, but I don’t think it had a singular cause or singular solution.
