When I reboot my MacBook Air, I get a message that reads like this:
Allow accessory to connect?
Do you want to connect VIA Labs, Inc.
USB3.0 Hub
to this Mac?
Don't Allow
Allow
I click Don't Allow, but I have no idea what this is all about. Does anyone have this concern? I am currently running Ventura 13.6.1 on an M2, 2022 MacBook Air..

Sounds like this might be related to a new security feature that Apple introduced in recent years.
On Mac notebooks that have Apple Silicon chips, you have to approve directly-connected USB and Thunderbolt accessories. If you do not, the system will offer 5V power, but nothing more. It will not allow data transmission.
On my computer, this seems to be connected with the usage of USB C Hub Multiport Adapter, with USB drives inserted. It disappears when the hub is disconnected.
It makes me wonder if I'll need to accept to use the USB drives in the future.
Curious though how VIA Labs, Inc. is connected to the hub/computer.
Any thoughts?
I don't know anything about that hub, but the first thing I'd try is updating my Mac to the current MacOS, which is Sonoma 14.2.1. It's possible this may resolve the issue.
I've been delaying that upgrade due to problems I've heard about. I guess I need to do it, but I will wait until the Christmas rush is done. Thanks for your reply.
