iPhone 14 Pro won't sync with iTunes for Windows after updating to iOS 17.2

My iPhone 14 Pro will no longer sync with iTunes for Windows (12.13.1.3) after updating to iOS 17.2. I hoped iOS 17.2.1 would fix this but it didn't. I have no problem with my iPad.

Once connected, it backs up but hangs on step 3 of 6 saying "Preparing to sync". This happens whether I check "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" or "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi".

Any solution?

I followed the first part of this answer ie: Disable MDCrashReporter.exe.

This will work for me until Apple comes up with a proper fix.

Basic troubleshooting:

Reinstall iTunes from the Microsoft Store
If you have an antivirus installed, try disabling it temporarily
Restart Windows
Restart Windows in Safe Mode

How long does it hang? An hour would be within a reasonable ballpark.
