Okay.

Oh - and Oops!

iTunes 12.10.11.2 was released on 23rd April 2021, not 2012.

iTunes for Windows is not retired and has not been abandoned. It is still here and was updated as recently as 15th December 2023.

However, your signature strip says Windows 6 (which Windows users have never seen), which suggests that you're using Windows 7 or Windows 8. Neither Windows 7 nor Windows 8 can install the latest version of iTunes. The tell-tale sign is that the Windows 7 (or 8) version of iTunes will be iTunes 12.10.11.2 (which was released on 23rd April 2012). The current version of iTunes (on the day of writing this) is 12.13.1.3

  • For anyone with Windows 10 who cannot update their iTunes, that is probably because you have installed the copy from the Microsoft Store, which updates automatically
  • The copy of iTunes downloaded directly from Apple does require the user to tap a button or two to update it

To complete this picture, Mac users on OS Mojave (10:14) or earlier still use iTunes.

Your iPhone does not (and has never had) iTunes on it. You can update the operating system (the iOS version) directly on your phone - BUT (and this is a very important point to note), iOS 15 and later will not work with iTunes 12.10.11.2.

iOS 15 requires iTunes 12.12.0.6 or later, which in turn requires Windows 10.
