Alarm is not working where there is no sound on the alarm

The alarm app on my iPhone 8 has recently become very unreliable in that many times the alarm doesn’t make any sound. This seems to happen more on the snooze alarms. Typically the alarm will ring and I will hit snooze once or sometimes multiple times. There usually is a point where I wake up quite a bit later to realize the alarm didn’t ring. I’ll check my phone and the alarm is on my screen with the options to snooze or stop so the last snooze alarm had worked but is not producing any sound to wake me up.


This is happening a lot but I don’t see any consistent pattern as to when the alarm sound stops working. Usually the main alarm works and it stops working at some point during snooze. I have checked and I am current with IOS updates. I also noticed in the reviews for the Alarm app in the App Store, that there are a lot of similar complaints about this issue with many mentioning this problem seems connected to a recent IOS update. Is there a fix to this?

If this behaviour started after the latest iOS 10.1 or 10.2 update, and force restarting did not help, you should at least inform Apple about that issue by using the Feedback link:

Reinstalling iOS by setting the iPhone back to factory settings on your computer may be a way to rule out a software problem, in case you installed the iOS update via Wi-Fi.
