My Apple Watch 4 worked fine up until I pulled it off the charger this morning and the “hello” screen appeared. I did not ask for the 10.2 update (nor were my settings set to automatically update), and somehow the update took place.

Performed a hard restart hoping to get rid of the hello screen (and it did), and it took about 30 minutes to finally appear to be connected to my iPhone. From that point on, my battery drained rather quickly. Usually I have approximately 45% when I put it on the charger at night, but I’ve had to put it on a charger twice now today, just to make it through a normal day of use.

This looks like it’s the makings of another class action suit regarding intentional battery drain to encourage people to upgrade.

Yes, happened to my Apple Watch 5 as well. It was running fine on watchOS 9, still having around 50% left at the end of the day. Non LTE watch, at least 30+ min workout daily, connected to Wi-Fi or iPhone during the day.

Updated to watchOS 10.1 and was lucky to get 20% left in the evening with the same use during the day.

Unpairing and setting it up as a new watch helped to get at least some battery life back. 10.2 improved it a bit more. But the battery life on the Apple Watch 5, capacity still at 92%, is not back to what it was, using watchOS 9.

I found the battery drain on the Apple Watch was from the music app. It was worse in early versions of iOS 17 and Apple WatchOS 10. Now using iOS17.3 and Apple WatchOS10.3 and still clearly the Music app. Whatever they did it’s constantly checking for updates. I’m also beginning to think it was in iOS 16 as well. Doesn’t seem to matter if I force close the Apple Watch music app or not as long as iphone playing music.
