Contact Key Verification detected an issue. What now?

I’ve activated Contact key verification for Messages on Mac and iPhone. Contact Verification on my iPhone shows caution symbol with the word “issue” next to it, both in red. How should I go about revealing the issue and correcting it?

Contact Key Verification Issue (recurring) Setting up Contact Key Verification with multiple devices (all running the latest OS) produces an issue that does not have any other description as to the issue or its cause(s) with no other option but to turn off/reset. "Contact key verification is temporarily unavailable for your account." Set up Contact Key Verification on my iPhone, and then checked it my iPad and Mac. iPad looked okay. Mac says "Contact key verification is temporarily unavailable for your account." Turned it off and turned it back on. Same issue. Followed all of the steps in this article below under the heading "If you get an alert that there's an issue with iMessage Contact Key Verification." None fixed the Mac. If you get an alert from iMessage Contact Key Verification - Apple Support Current status: Contact key verification is OFF on iPhone and iPad. But it's stuck in the ON position on the Mac. When I try to turn it off, it hangs for a while, then tells me Contact Key Verification not available and to check the internet connection, which is fine. I have tried hitting the Reset Contact Key Verification option on appleid.apple.com, but that doesn't seem to do anything. The setting stays switched on on my phone, and the public verification code is identical. Has anybody fixed a similar issue?

I guess that my Series 3 Apple Watch can never again be connected to Apple ID because it can only update to watchOS 8. I was told to remove it from device list when setting up Contact Key Verification on my Mac. I hoped I could add it back later. I removed it again and the Issue warning no longer appears. So now it's like a Casio?

I find this weird. I have multiple devices that are on the latest OS version, but I still get this issue.

Hoping that iOS 17.4 with the new encryption will solve this issue. iOS 17.3.1 surely did not fix it.
