How to turn off Pages auto space highlight and delete

When I type anything in pages it automatically makes a space after my words sometimes I don’t want a space after my words (irritating) so I backspace it then it highlights my word I just typed in orange and a bubble with half the word and an arrow and deletes it if I push any key. This is awful how do I turn it off.

Delete Key removes space too I use my delete key to remove to the left of the cursor. I don't remember it doing this before, but I work on Safari quite a bit and now am noticing that when I'm deleting a word, the space before it also deletes. So when I type the right spelling, there is no longer a space between the words. It's driving me crazy and I can't figure out how or why this is a thing suddenly. I've cleared my cache and cookies to try and cure it. I've searched online and here and can't find a thing...which tells me it may be something I did. I really don't want to use a different browser. Thank you to anyone who can help!

Deleting words by accident in Pages When I am typing quickly, I often correct automatically by hitting the delete key and fixing the erroneous letter, by moving the cursor. For some reason, Pages now highlights the entire word, meaning that when I hit delete, I lose the entire word. Moreover, if I am fat-fingered, I can lose 2-3 words instead of just moving the cursor. How can I turn off this feature? It is enough of an annoyance for me to go back to Word (shudder).

This is new behavior in pages. Pages did NOT used to do this. Please provide a way to disable this feature as it causes constant unintended deletion of text and is so bad I’m going to have to stop using pages and find an alternative.
