My left airpod is in the charging case but is not being shown by my phone as being there. When I put both in my ear only the right plays music. I have reset the airpods and the problem is not fixed.

I have the same problem, my left AirPod won’t connect to my right one. It’s not even charging in the case but the battery’s still a 100% cuz it’s not being used. Only the right AirPod is playing sound.
Try If your left or right AirPod isn't working - Apple Support. It is possible that the left AirPod has died and will need to be replaced.
