Alternate way - Period after double space

On my Macbook pro, I have to go to System Settings, then click on Keyboard, then select Text Input/Input Sources and click on Edit. There is where I finally found Add period with double space.

Double spaces being inserted. My space bar inserts extra spaces on my MacBook Pro when I am typing. Previous posts say to: Go to the  Apple menu and choose 'System Preferences' Select the “Keyboard” preference panel, then choose the “Text” tab. Locate the setting for “Add period with double-space” and toggle the checkbox to the OFF position. But my Mac doesn't have System Preferences, or a text tab. Mine shows System Settings, Keyboard, but no text tab or any place to toggle off “Add period with double-space”. How do I fix this very annoying double spaces?

Problem with Spaces Each time I have to restart the Mac, all windows open up in the first space and I have to drag them all back to the spaces they are supposed to be in.
