Battery too low for update but can’t charge because of update

I went to charge my iPad but it wouldn’t worked and I suspect it’s because of a update I need to complete but when I did it told me “battery too low” so I went to charge but it’s not charging because of the pending update. What do I do?

iPad mini, iOS 12

Presumably you are experiencing difficulties when charging from a USB-C Power Adapter or other USB-C power source. If so, this would suggest that there is a problem with USB PD (Power Delivery).

In such circumstances, instead of using a USB-C power source, try charging your iPad from a regular USB Type-A Power Adapter adapter - or a computer's USB Type-A port that is explicitly marked as being able to charge external connected devices. The USB port or Power Adapter must be able to provide at least 12W (i.e., 2.4A @5V) to successfully charge the iPad.

NB: When not charging your iPad from an adequate power source, you'll not be able to perform a system software update unless the iPad battery has been charged to 50% or more. Wherever possible, it is generally recommended that you keep your iPad connected to an adequate charging source throughout the update process.
