Can't get into a password protected website with Safari but can with Chrome. Why?

when I use Safari and enter the correct password the website says the password is incorrect. when I do the same with Chrome I can get into the same website

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.7

To be clear, are you saying that you physically enter the passwords, not that the password is entered for you by Safari? I know that Safari is unable to connect with some web sites (reason unknown) and it is recommended to use another browser for those sites.
