Switching from a family iCloud account to a personal.

So currently I'm in a 2 TB family plan and we have been using 1.8 TB out of it. My own iPhone has been using almost half of it.. For example my photos itself has about 700 GB. I need to leave the family plan and get my own space.

As far as I know, in order to not lose any data before leaving the family plan, I need to download all the data (original photos etc) to my phone. The problem is my phone has 256 GB storage only. Therefore, it will be impossible to download the data to my phone ..

So I'm looking for the best and the safest way to switch the iCloud+ accounts without losing any data.

The only thing comes to mind is backing up everything to a computer or an external hdd and after getting the new iCloud plan, I will upload from the back up. Is that possible? Am I missing anything? I just want to be very cautious before doing anything wrong.

Thanks in advance for your help

You have another alternative. To use the US monthly costs, as you don't state where you are, the 2TB plan costs US$9.99 and the next plan up is the 6TB plan which costs $29.99 per month. The difference is US$20 per month.

Your idea is to have two of the 2TB plans with one reserved for yourself - bearing in mind that the lower plan of 200GB would be insufficient for both your own requirements and that of the other family group members.

The two x 2TB plans would, cumulatively, cost $19.98 which is only $10 less than the single plan cost for the 6TB plan. It would be worth your while considering the simple option of staying in your family group and paying for the 6TB plan, and therefore avoid any strategy required to secure your data before you make a migration to a single-person plan.
