How to remove the annoying Chess.app?

Such a pain and time waster when it launches itself and has to be forced quit. It ruins my morning every day. It is not removable. Apple should advertise that they are forcing greedy marketing on you when you buy a new Mac

I paid a high price for my many Apple products. I have the right to remove crap like the Chess app that I do not want in my workspace. It is terribly annoying and no, it is not set to start-up at launch. It launches itself if you simply hover over it. This is just garbage software clogging up disk space. You can remove all other Apple applications. It makes no sense that you should not be able to remove marketing software disguised as an app

Removing an App from the App Store:

You Can't: Unfortunately, you cannot hide an app from the App Store. It is there, because Apple has a licensing with the Developer. so, it will just stay there. So, contact the Developer, if you are having concerns with it. You'll find their Contact Us info in the app's'ste of the App Store.

Are you referring to the Chess game that comes with the Mac? I've never had it launch itself.

Check System {Preferences/Settings} > General > Login Items and see if has been added there as an "Open at Login" item. (On older versions of macOS, I believe the Login Items are part of Users & Groups Preferences.)

If someone has added the Chess game to that list, just remove it.

You must be talking about some other app than the 7.4Mb Chess app provided by Apple. It does not market anything. There are no ads in the app to make money off of. It does not launch by itself.

If you are experiencing this behavior, I suggest running EtreCheck, because you are having System problems. EtreCheck will provide a snapshot of the files on your system to see if there are any conflicts or bad actors. You can post the report here using the Additional Text option when posting. It does not contain any personal information and the program can be easily deleted by dragging t the trash after you run the free report.

Note: This will not remove the application from your Mac. It will simply stop it from opening automatically, so it won't run unless you choose to run it.

The Chess app never launches by itself on my system and if it is happening on yours it most likely is set to launch at  > System Settings > General > Login Items.

The app is in my Applications folder and I never interact with it. I don't bother with it and it does not bother me. I don't find Apple forcing any marketing on me and to be honest, I forgot the app was even there.

The Chess game does not launch itself, and has never displayed ads for anything.

I'm not going to try to delete it from my system to see if I can, because every now and then, I might want to play it. The game takes up only 7.4 MB of space on my 512 GB startup drive, or roughly 0.0014% of the space.

If you have installed some other "Chess.app" from who-knows-where that is a piece of adware that digs into your system and constantly re-launches itself, that's your lookout. The one Apple supplies is nothing like that.

I Agree: Go to the App Store and you’ll see a promoted app right in top. As a result, you’d end up getting the wrong app. If a retailer has you download their app, then you’ll likely be perceived to tap a competitor’s app, atop the one you’re looking to download.
