safari reader view disabled after ios 17 upgrade

My Apple SE has a new problem. After I installed IOS 17.1 my safari reader view is no longer available. I have it sitting side by side with my ipad loading the same websites, My iphone does not offer "reader view". (my ipad runs IOS 16)

Tried restarting, clearing browser, various switches in "settings" but nothing seems to work.

Help

iPhone SE (2nd generation)

Reader view also is not working on my new iPhone 13

Running iOS 17.1.2

I had recently turned on “Bold Text” and “dynamic type” in settings hoping to increase text size.

I turned both of these off, then turned the phone off and on again.

“Reader view” now works.

I have sine turned “Bold Text” back on and everything is working fine.

(“dynamic type” also has the unfortunate effect of making the “pages float around” in Safari)

If “Dynamic type” hasn’t been turned on.

There may be other settings that “reader view” or Safari are not playing with well.  You might try turning off any settings you recently changed or settings different than the original settings.
