The menu bar that was above the message type box is gone and has been replaced with a plus sign. So many more steps to get to the camera, photos, etc. It's terrible. Bring back the menu bar.

Agreed. Horrified by the ‘updates’ to messages. More like a regression. Now I have to hunt around for something that was easily accessible. Can I uninstall this update or will apple get its act together and fix this???!!!
