Anybody else having tap to wake issues intermittently (working half of the time ) and the other half takes a couple of taps to register )

No, not at all. Try a force restart and if that does not work, use the Support link at the top of the page to make a Genius Bar appointment at the nearest Apple store to have the hardware examined.
I contacted apple and they say that it is a software issue they’re pretty sure at least. Thankfully they have gotten reports of this problem other then mine and finally after numerous calls of the same issue it seems like they’re finally informed that there is actually a problem, and more importantly it’s not just a problem i’m facing, but others as well which obviously sucks but is more comforting for me. Hopefully ios will fix this issue soon and let’s cross our fingers and hope that this is just a ios bug.

If you are still experiencing problems, like I said, Apple is your next step.
Once again no hatred towards you or anything but just cause you’re not facing the issue doesn’t mean that other people aren’t - that it isn’t caused by an ios bug. I’m currently looking through the forums and seeing that people are having many different issues, some of them I have, most of them I do not on ios 17.1.1

any update from Apple as to when this is targeted to be fixed if it’s a software issue ?
Sorry you are experiencing the problem, but as you said it is refreshing that Apple acknowledged it. I've not experienced this, so it is not something that everyone experiences. Good luck with your device.
Yes, at least so they’re saying so yes it is pretty refreshing to know at least that they know about the issue. I haven’t seen many other posts about it but it sounds like it’s an issue that is kinda just now coming to the headlines.
I never said that others were not experiencing the problem. You originally asked if anyone else was facing the problem and I said no referring to myself. Understand you are not speaking with Apple here, I'm just a fellow user like yourself. I never said it wasn't a bug, but not everyone is experiencing the issue. Again, I'm sorry you are experiencing the problem, I provided you with all the user troubleshooting steps and suggested you contact Apple, which you did and got a response from them. I hope you are able to get the problem corrected with help from Apple.
Ugh. I have done a diagnostics test and everything came back fine. haven’t been to the apple store to do one of the more in depth tests there.
Totally get what you’re saying and I didn’t mean it that way. I’m kinda sleep deprived from an early on the road back home from thanksgiving if you can’t tell.
