Backing Up with Time Machine

Does Time Machine backup multiple users at once or must they be backed up individually? I have two users on my MacBook Air M1 and will be upgrading to the latest OS over the weekend. But, if it fails and I lose my wife’s “stuff”.. my name will be mud.

So, I want to be sure I have a complete backup available of both users.
