Since the iOS 17 update, speak screen accessibility function does not work properly. It skips words or entire sentences. Selecting text and choosing ‘speak’ presents a similar issue as it tends to only read a part of the selected text before stoping.

I’ve had the same issue, it skips entire paragraphs or simply stops.
Reseting all settings doesn’t fix the problem, nor even restoring with a backup.
Any suggestions about how to cure this? It’s so frustrating
