Samsung T9 converting to APFS on Ventura OS running in MacBook Air

I'm running Ventura on M1 MacBook Air. I just bought Samsung T9 SSD and tried to convert it to APFS, but that option is not provided... help?

The only drive format that can be converted to APFS is Mac OS Extended. You need to erase the drive to change the format to APFS.
