Siri mispronouncing after 17.1.1 update?

Since the recent upgrade to iOS 17.1.1 on my iPhone 12, Siri has been mispronouncing random words over CarPlay. For instance, “Rachel” comes out “Racheechee”, “arrived” is “uh-rivved”, and the highway number “690” came out like “eye-tye-tye”. Not sure if having Siri set to the female Indian voice makes a difference, never had issues before, but possibly it was upgraded to a foreign pronunciation set that doesn’t match American pronunciation or alphanumeric characters? Anyone else experiencing this?

This exact same thing has been happening to me since the update too. I also have a 12, I have the male Indian voice. But I’ve tried switching the voice to other accents and it does the same thing. It’s weird, because if I ask Siri to give me directions to a place, he says “getting directions to ___” and says it correctly. But then when he’s announcing the directions, it’s wrong. He said “fairgrounds” as “fajengas”. But the worst is when he says “Niagara”. He now calls it “nig*ara” 😩

I am having the exact same problem, and it started at the exact same time (as soon as I upgraded to the new iOS). It happens most often in the Maps app (just the other day, Siri added a syllable to "Gastonia" and pronounced it "Gastononia"), but I have noticed that names are being mispronounced as well (the most annoying being my last name that was previously pronounced correctly and now is not). I have male Indian Siri, so maybe it's an issue specific to the Indian voices?

It seems like you possibly didn’t read my post or copy pasted an answer from someone else’s post? I didn’t mention anything about a flickering screen.

This isn’t something I didn’t notice. I use Siri on CarPlay daily for directions and to text the aforementioned “Rachel”. As soon as I upgraded my iOS to 17.1.1, the graphics for Siri on CarPlay changed, and the mispronunciation errors began the same day.

I am using the Male Indian voice on my iPhone 12 Pro Max IOS 17.1.2

since this last update it mispronounces a BUNCH of stuff on CarPlay mostly using maps directions. “Arrived” is “rivved” but there are too many other weird ones to list. Super goofy. I don’t want to change my Stuber voice tho. I named him Siri Lanka 😊

Updating iOS on your iPhone should typically not alter the fundamental functionality of the device. It's possible that there were underlying issues before this update, which you might not have been aware of previously or might not have noticed.

In general, iOS updates are designed to enhance the user experience, improve security, and fix bugs, rather than introducing major disruptions to core features. The reported issue of the screen flickering and displaying a white screen after an update is likely caused by factors that are not explicitly mentioned in your post.

iOS updates primarily focus on improving system performance, introducing new features, fixing bugs, and enhancing security. They are designed to preserve your personal data, settings, and information intact.

During an iOS update, your device's operating system is upgraded, but your personal data, such as contacts, photos, messages, and other information, should remain unchanged. However, it's always a good practice to perform a backup of your device before any major update to ensure that your data is safely stored.

It's important to note that while an iOS update itself should not alter personal details, it's possible that certain features or settings may be adjusted or improved with the update. In such cases, you may need to review and adjust specific settings to match your preferences after the update.

Always make sure to read and understand the update details provided by Apple before proceeding with an iOS update, and follow best practices such as backing up your device to minimize any potential risks or complications.

Glad it's not just me--I have a female Indian voice and it completely mangles some words, cutting off or adding syllables and skipping several consonants completely. Wanted to go on a fun little excursion on the internet to learn more about the work that goes behind the accent and vocabulary variations, but of course since Apple is so secretive, nothing to be found.

Guess I'll just have to go study NLP and do it the long way lolol.

Anyway at least I'm not crazy. Wonder why this is happening. Assumed it was because Apple directs fewer resources to voice variants depending on market need.
