PAGES - PERMISSION TO SAVE?!?

In a quandry - need your help, please!

Recently started having problems with Pages app. (Have MacBook Pro M1, OS Sonoma 14.1.)

When I try to save a Pages document I get this popup warning: The document "____" could not be saved. The file is locked. Do you want to save changes to it anyway?

Choices are then "Save Anyway" or "Cancel"

When I press "Save Anyway" I then get another popup warning that says: You don't have permission to save the file "____" in the folder "___". To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info.

The only choice is "OK"

When I then press "OK" the title of the Pages document now ends this way: " ___.pages -- Not Saved" and the popup balloon beneath it says, "The document could not be autosaved. You don't have permission."

So in the Finder I do as instructed; I choose the document, then File and > Get info.

There I see in the sidebar under "Sharing & Permissions" that I have the Privilege to Read & Write.

BUT ... WHAT ABOUT THE PERMISSION TO SAVE? Or Autosave, for that matter?

Friends, any idea how I can give myself permission to save or autosave?

Thank you!

Rebooting does not help. I also use Pages v13.2.

Using a VPN - but that's never been a problem.

This non-saving occurs with documents I create - both new and previously saved.

When I perform Finder Get Info, the box that's checked is, "Stationery Pad," not "Locked."

Btw, at the same time this situation began to occur, the cursor in Pages changed color from black to orange. That's not a problem per se - just something curious which may or may not be related.

Where are you attempting to save this Pages document?

  1. Local drive, within your home directory?
  2. iCloud Drive?
  3. Any third-party cloud service, and if so, which one?
  4. External mounted drive, and if so, is it a Windows or Linux formatted drive?
  5. Mounted file share from a network server?

Since all of my Pages documents for the last several years have been saved in either iCloud Drive or my local home directory, I have not experienced what you are describing.

Local drive and in your home directory rather than protected locations elsewhere on the drive? Have you rebooted and the problem persists?

I use Pages v13.2 on Sonoma 14.1.1 and have no issues opening or saving documents within my home directory (e.g. Desktop, Documents, etc.).

Are you using any third-party anti-virus, or so-called cleaning apps (e.g. Clean My Mac X) that might interfere with normal application save operations?

Is this a document that someone else has shared with you, or in some manner, may have been locked by someone else? When you perform a Finder Get Info (option+cmd+i) on this document, is the locked status checked?
