iPhone 15 pro does not lock

My iPhone pro never locks. Anyone can touch the screen and swipe up and open it.

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 17

Yes, the Geek guy found there are two places to set Auto-lock…

Under Display & Brightness and under Face ID & Passcode.

The under Display & Brightness only makes it dim after the set time. It is under Face ID & Passcode that you can set the time when it locks and requires your passcode to unlock.

Is it possible you are mistaking the always-on display for being on and unlocked? With the always-on display on the phone will dim and appear to be on the lock screen and you may see notifications there. If you are looking at the phone the face ID will unlock the phone.
