Eraser option via photos no longer working since iOS 17

Why is it that I used to be able screenshot something from the net for example then I could simply go to my photos and select the photo I wanted to edit and I’d be able to use the eraser option to scribble out whatever I wanted. It worked fine and was a useful tool. Now since iOS 17 and even after all the “bugs fixes” updates since iOS 17 it still refuses to work! Very annoying as this feature was something that worked absolutely fine before the new recent iOS 17 update. You’d think that Apple would add extra eraser option features but no they still show the eraser ✏️ tool but you click on it and it doesn’t do anything?? Very random as I keep thinking 🤔 what the **** am I doing wrong. I’m pretty sure this is just a bug that’s got into the system and Apple haven’t recognised this flaw in their new update which I’m pretty sure has already had 2-3 “bugs fixes” updates so now it’s got to be ios17.something and this problem still isn’t sorted. VERY ANNOYING! Apple 🍎 come on guys sort it out!

That's not the way I remember it.

The eraser in the Markup facility used to make pixelation on places which I used to want to hide - like on number plates, it was excellent tool.

And also on the background picture it used to erase unwanted object.

With the iOS 17 both these features gone, making me feel fool and searching for appropriate tools to replace this smart eraser tool, which used to live in Photo Editor Markup tool!!! VERY SAD!!!
