Trouble renaming new lists in contacts on my Mac

I can create a contact list on my Mac under icloud but I can't rename it UNLESS I click on the "untitled list" and PRESS THE TAB KEY before and after typing in the new list name. It doesn't work all the time. Keep trying. There is no rhyme reason! Once the name sticks in appears on my phone.

FYI, I have a brand new mac with the latest software. It seems very glitchy and inconsistent. I was able to create a list on my phone without an issue and it appeared on mac.

This is a flaw and needs to be corrected. Or else there is some hidden toggle that I need to turn on.
