Which audio interfaces work with Macbook Pro M3

Bought a new MacBook Pro M3 Pro Laptop. Realised needed to retire my old Firewire audio interface and bought a new UA Volt 476P. But it isn't working right and currently I can't work....

Not sure if it is due to Sonoma or the M3 chips.

The Volt 476P website says it is compatible both with Sonoma and with M1 & M2 Silicon machines.

Is anyone using a USB audio interface with a M3 MacBook Pro successfully?

I just upgraded to a new Macbook Pro M3 with Sonoma 14.5. UA Apollo X4 DOES NOT WORK! I followed all of the instructions to uninstall/re-install:

https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/360051069691-UAD-Uninstall-Reinstall-Procedure-macOS

I then followed all of the instructions for Apple Silicon Mac settings:

https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/360057137692-Apple-Silicon-Compatibility-with-Universal-Audio-Devices

I also followed the install instructions for Sonoma 14:

https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/19237390771860-UAD-Software-Compatibility-with-macOS-Sonoma-14

After installing, restarting and then going to System Settings/Privacy & Security and scrolling down to Security, there is no dialog box "System software from developer 'Universal Audio' has been updated" and there is no button to "Allow". After 30 minutes, I get an error message saying, "...Universal Audio application not authenticated".

I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times just to make sure I followed directions exactly, still no luck.

Going to return UA Apollo X4 and replace with another brand to see if I'll have success...UPDATE SOON!

UPDATE #1

Returned the UA Apollo X4 to Guitar Center and the salesperson contacted the UA Rep directly. Because the M3 chip is so new, the UA interface (both SW and HW) are having compatibility issues working together. Any changes to UA SW/HW interface with Macs need to be approved (submitted, tested, re-tested, certified, etc.) with Apple...which takes time. The UA Rep said it could be, "...tomorrow or a few months. It's up to Apple."

Sooooooooo...

Bought a Presonus Quantum ES 2 and it's been working fine for the past 24 hours.

I had a Focusrite Pro 24 FireWire interface which worked with daisy chained thunderbolt adaptors (as you describe above) right up to Big Sur. when I got the M3 I think I ended up deciding it wasn’t going to work - Focusrite didn’t support any drivers for Sonoma and the drivers wouldn’t install and it felt time to move on.

So I ended up trying out a few - UA Volt 4 2 a Pre-Sonus. They all worked fine with the M3 and Sonoma - there was a 3rd party driver initially interfering with the UA driver - which is why I posted the question here - but I worked that out.

I ended up going for the Focusrite Clarett 4Pre because it was the only one that had the flexible routing I had on the Pro24 which worked with my studio speakers and sub-woofer without a major hoo haa.

Very happy with it. Need to say also that Focusrite tech support was absolutely superb .

Tom

For what it's worth I've just upgraded my Cubase studio setup to the Mac Studio M2. I've had a host of issues just swapping the software over and found my old Steinberg UR44 simply wasn't compatible. As such I have just purchased the UA Volt 476 and I just can't get it to work. The weird thing is, I recorded a test vocal on a new project earlier today with it, thinking all was well, and since then I just can't get anything to register in or out...... very frustrating. I'm going to look at the security protocols tomorrow as this could have a bearing on it. good luck!!
