How can I turn off gesture reactions in FaceTime?

I have a MacBook Pro with Sonoma 14.0. I am an LPC who uses HIPAA-compliant software for visual sessions. I can no longer use my MacBook due to these Reactions that pop up during sessions.

I have followed every (I mean every) guide to turning reactions off - and am unable to disable this feature.

I have, for the first time in decades, purchased a PC.

I am significantly disappointed in Apples assumption that everyone will love this new Reaction feature.

I'm here because I'm an LPC with the same problem. Cartoon bubbles appeared randomly during a video counseling session today. There is no green video icon during video calls in the menu bar on my MacBook Pro.

Anyway, I don't want to have to turn it off at the start of every session.

Does anyone know where I can disable it in System Preferences?

When I click on the camera I only have an option for Mic under the picture. I do not have an option for Reactions.

So you are in FaceTime app, with a call active?

Per Apple, the control is (unfortunately) well hidden:

To turn this feature on or off, select Reactions in the Video menu, which appears in the menu bar when a video call is in progress.

Apple indicates Reactions can be disabled here:

Use Reactions, Presenter Overlay, and other effects when videoconferencing on Mac - Apple Support

If that’s not working in current macOS Sonoma, contact Apple Support.

Reaction isn’t available on that configuration. Try triggering it, and you shouldn’t get anything.

Which Mac? One with Sonoma and Apple silicon, or Sonoma with Continuity Camera and an iPhone 12 or newer?

So you are in FaceTime app, with a call active?

Per Apple, the control is (unfortunately) well hidden:
