Homekit 17.1.1 - BUGS!

Since the iOS 17.1 update (HomePod OS 17.1 / tvOS 17.1) and most of my scenes are screwed up. Especially scenes with Adaptive Lighting. A lot of the adaptive lamps decided to use colors instead of adaptive light.

This happened in iOS 16 upgrade, and I had to edit all my scenes and make sure everything is set right. Problem is, with THIS update (17.1), even editing scenes is very buggy. I change color to a light inside the scene and boom! all color controls disappear forever. For example, I had this "Day Light" scene where a few spot lights are turned bright on adaptive lighting, one of the spots turned blue every time I activated the scene (after the 17.1 upgrade) and so I tried to edit the "Day Light" scene to change that spot back to adaptive, once I touched "Adaptive" color in the color controls, the whole controls disappeared. I have no option now to change the color of that spot inside that scene anymore. I restarted, disconnected the house electricity and back, and even waited and updated to 17.1.1 (all my devices), still that spot inside that specific scene has no color controls. This has repeatedly happened on different lights, in different scenes and now I can't even modify the scenes correctly back to what it was.

Yes Home app is much faster, and scenes executions are much faster than the mess I had to go through with iOS 16 updates, but it's awfully buggy now, very unstable and very forgetful. Not to mention the mess that happened in a lot of my automations.

When “Leave automations” fire on their own, like I left the house while I’m sitting still, that’s a bug. When colors inside scenes change on their own after updates, those are bugs. When “Color controls” disappear once you change a color inside a scene that’s a bug. This not happening to you is “Luck” like some of the 15Pros heating up for some and not heating up for others, that’s luck. I was lucky mine didn’t have the heating up issue.

As for resetting, I don’t think that’s even acceptable as a solution every other update, when you have a considerable amount of lights/accessories which are included in a lot of scenes and automations, the suggestion to reset and start from scratch is simply unreal. At least, when there’s nothing to guarantee that the next update won’t bring down all what you’ve spent hours building on a buggy software in the first place.

But thanks for your input.

First post here, logged in just for you.

We’re having the same *exact* issue.

All devices up to date, UDMPSE, IGMP snooping on, mDNS on, low latency gigabit ethernet.

Two iPhone 15s (Pro Max & wife’s Pro), 4 Minis, 2 HomePod 2s, new iPad Air.

27 Hue color bulbs, 3 Hue Gos, 14 NanoNeaf color bulbs, various switches,

Novices often conflate a “restart” with a “reset”. Job security.

In any case, a bit of advice. Restarting solves 90% of the issues I run into.

The need to RESET, however, is introduced by bugs; and like you OP, it isn’t just a simple matter as waving my $1,300 mitten warmer at a HomePod to rebuild all of my settings.

HomeKit is an Apple product.

I insist for the price we pay to carry nothing more than a status icon, to let Microsoft make Siri look like a windup toy, it should work greater than 90% of the time.

It’s been FUBAR for me since iOS 15.3? .2? Anyways, YEARS.

Ikrupp have you considered healthier avenues for your condescension?

You’re absolutely right. There are bugs and my entire HomeKit is messed up. My HomePod mini’s aren’t working and are stuck configuring. These basic fixes do it work. I wasn’t have an issue at all before this update. Not only that the Apple TV remote doesn’t work on my iPhone anymore. I’ve reset my WiFi numerous times as well as my other accessories. It’s broken bad lol. I wonder if I would have these issues with google devices seriously consider selling this equipment and switching. Don’t even get me started on these lights lol tho.

Hi.. Currently on 17.2 (and 17.2.1 on iOS) -> The color palette bug is solved, I no longer have colors disappearing, but.. every couple of days one of the scenes become messed up on it's own, forgetting colors already assigned, especially if "Adaptive" and not a color like Red/Green/Blue etc.

Things seem to be smoother than the previous version, but not to a state that I could call "Stable" - Still many bugs to handle. Unfortunately, I didn't find a permanent solution to the colors issue, so I just re-edit the messed up scene every couple of days back to what it was, and that's it. Sometimes, you'd find the correct color is selected (let's say, it's on the Adaptive light and you expect the scene to work like that) but in real life, it's not showing what you've selected. So you just choose any other color, save the scene, run it, then back to edit it, choose the color you want, save the scene and run.

The "Away from Home" automations which used to run on their own although I'm home is not happening as frequent, only happened once since the 17.2 update.

And no I didn't reset my HomePods or anything, just waited and updated.

If you're having issues with the colors completely disappearing like my problem on 17.1, workaround is to remove the affected accessory from the scene, save the scene, then back to edit the scene and add the accessory again, this brings back the color palette for that specific accessory, but won't necessarily make things work again, I remember I did this for like 10 times for a bulb that showed no color palette, and every time the palette comes back after removing/adding the accessory to the scene, once I choose a color they all disappear again, and again, and again, until one of those times it finally registered the color I've chosen but then the palette disappeared again, but at least it worked. 17.2 fixed the palette disappearing problem for me, but like I said, still unstable, still a mess.

Also, I noticed, when I introduce I new color to the palette, you know, go all the way to the right and get inside the color chooser, add it and use it, it messes up other scenes' colors, sometimes pick on that new color I've chosen and put it in different scenes although I haven't touched those. So, again, you're gonna have to do this fixing and editing manually every time something is messed up, and it won't end there, it will still mess up again. Especially, if let's say you're using a scene that has bulb 1 to red bulb 2 to orange, then you're running a scene that has those bulbs to Adaptive lighting, 50% of the time one of the bulbs won't get back to Adaptive and will remain on the previous color and save it to that adaptive scene, so every time you run the adaptive scene you'll have one of the bulbs bringing back the red or orange color like you've saved it like that. No solution yet that I've found except, editing the scene back to what you want etc.

Let's hope the next update is a better one anyway.
