How can I fix the random display of wrong artwork on synced songs on my iPhone?

I synch my phone to my computer and the artwork is correct however, on some songs the wrong artwork is displayed!! It's totally random, most artwork is correct. It just bugs me to no end as I insure I have the correct artwork for my music. I do not buy music from Apple all if not most of my music is what I convert from my albums.

There are a few things you can try to fix the wrong artwork being displayed on your iPhone, even though it is correct on your computer:

  1. Restart your iPhone. This can sometimes fix minor glitches.
  2. Check for updates to your iPhone's software and your computer's iTunes or Music app. The latest updates may include bug fixes for album artwork.
  3. Sign out of and back into your iCloud account on your iPhone. This can sometimes refresh the album artwork.
  4. Delete and reinstall the Music app on your iPhone. This will erase all of your music and album artwork, so be sure to back up your music before doing this.
  5. Manually edit the album artwork for the songs with the wrong artwork. You can do this by going to the Music app, tapping on the song, tapping on the three dots in the top right corner, and tapping on "Edit." Then, tap on the artwork and select the correct artwork from your library.

If you have tried all of the above and the wrong artwork is still being displayed, you can contact Apple Support for further assistance.

Here is an additional tip that may help:

  • Connect your iPhone to your computer and open iTunes or the Music app.
  • Find an album with the wrong artwork and right-click on it.
  • Select "Get Album Artwork."
  • iTunes or the Music app will search for the correct artwork and download it.
  • Once the artwork has been downloaded, sync your iPhone.

This has worked for some users in the past, even if the other solutions did not.

I hope this helps!

I had the same issues with the wrong album covers appearing on Music app. What worked for me was connecting my phone to the PC, open iTunes, select the iPhone, under settings select Music, uncheck "Sync Music **** Songs". Once that was confirmed by iTunes, sync the phone, it will confirm all music is being removed from the iPhone. When Sync is finished, check iPhone Music app to confirm all music is gone (some iTunes purchased music may remain, that's ok).

With the iPhone still connected to the PC, go back to iPhone > Settings > Music and check the "Sync Music **** Songs" box. After checking the box, Sync the iPhone again and all the music and art will be added back to the iPhone and the artwork should be correct.

I have the same issue, iPhone 15 Pro Max (17.5.1) with Sonoma 14.5. In the music app in my macbook all the cover art for my music are correct, when sync with the iPhone for some reason there is a random cover art or none display on most of my tracks. I've tried the possible solutions proposed here none of them worked. I didn't had this issue with my previous iPhone 13 Pro Max and Mac OS Ventura.

I have hundreds of albums on my new iPhone 15, and all of them have incorrect album covers (they are album covers for the albums I have, but rearranged). They were correct on my iPhone 13 just a few weeks ago, so it is likely related to the recent upgrade.

This is really annoying!

The music is from CDs that I bought and ripped using iTunes or Music.app, and I personally checked that the album covers were correct before syncing. They are still correct on the Music.app on my computer.

1) Restarting the phone did not work.

2) Software is all up-to-date

3) I don't store my music on the iCloud (only locally on the phone synced from my iMac)

4) deleting the app is a terrible solution

5) manually editing hundreds of albums is also a terrible solution

5b) unsyncing an album and then resyncing it does fix the artwork, but that takes 60 seconds per album - another terrible solution.
