How to cancel "An account recovery request was made for your Apple ID"

I received an email that "An account recovery request was made for your Apple ID" from an unknown phone number and location I have never been to. And that this new unknown phone number will receive a text in a month to reset my account.

When I click the red link within "If you did not make this request or do not recognise the information shown above, you should cancel account recovery immediately to keep your account secure." it brings me to the:

Cannot Verify Account

We apologize but we are unable to verify your account information online.

Even if I login on that page and try the link again I still get that repeated message.

How do I stop myself from, what I believe is, getting my account taken over by this unknown person?

Based upon what you have stated, I suspect that your account has been compromised. Read If you think your Apple ID has been compromised for steps you can take to help regain control of your account.

The veracity of the email is not believable.

You should follow all of the steps in the Support Article:

Gain control of your Apple ID
Secure your Apple ID
Use the "Contact Apple Support" link at the end of the Support Article

Thanks for the prompt reply. I don't believe my account has been compromised yet. As I can still login with my 2FA and still do everything as normal. I believe someone has TRIED to compromise my account and I'm hoping to stop that from happening on "December 8th" as it says in the email when it appears apple will hand over control of my account to that new phone number and I don't seem to have a way to stop it.
