My plder iPad is dead from lack of charge. It's been in this condition for months. Do I need to do anything exra other than plugging it into power? It seems a bit slow charging. Is this normal?

My older iPad had been drained of battery power for some time now and I need to know how to I tell if it's charging. It shows the critically low battery symbol, however my other newer Apple products show a lightening bolt with the battery symbol. I'm not getting that now. Am I missing something?

If the battery has been left uncharged for an extended length

of time, it may be irretrievably damaged and unable to hold a

charge. In this case, either the battery or the iPad may need replacing.

Let the iPad charge for 24 hours. If no improvement,

make an appointment at the nearest Apple location to have your iPad evaluated for free.

Once the diagnostics are complete, the staff will explain your options.

As described, your iPad's battery is very likely dead, damaged beyond recovery through deep discharge - this being a condition from which the battery cannot recover.

You might be well advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad. If battery replacement or other repair is required, you will be in the best possible place to explore your available options:
