My Migration Assistant from my old iMac was downloading fine to my new iMac until it stopped and took away one file and is now adding minutes to the estimated time. Is this normal and so I should wait?

Are you migrating via WiFi or via a Time Machine backup external drive?
WiFi will be painfully slow, but via the Time Machine backup will be much faster.
How much data are you transferring from your old Mac? Depending on the amount of data, migration can take anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours.
Pretty normal, it counts files at the same time it's copying files, when there's more room in the buffers it'll start counting files again.
I was going peer to peer. I left it for awhile and it eventually resumed … thanks
