Do AirTags make a sound when they're far away from the paired iPhone?

I've done a lot of research about AirTags, and now I am planning to buy one (with engraving <3) and give it to my partner who will be working in a cruise ship as a memento of our relationship since we're both Apple enthusiasts. My iPhone will be the one paired with the AirTag because my partner is using an Android phone for the time being.

However, my question is: will it always make a sound since it will be far away from me? And if so, is there a way to disable it?

Another question is: will other iPhone users near him be notified about the AirTag and make a sound as well since the paired iPhone is far away from the AirTag?

I also want to know if it's still a good idea to buy for that purpose. (And yes, my partner is aware that I might be seeing his location if I give him the airtag.)

I just also want to add that I'm aware of people removing the speaker of the airtag, but I don't want to do it because I think it will be essential as well if ever my partner can't find it. Or I can play a sound whenever necessary.

Can an AirTag be shared?

Yes, it can be shared via Family Sharing. Click here ➜ Share an AirTag or other item in Find My on iPhone - Apple Support

What if my partner pair it with his iPhone too (or shared via Family Share if possibe). Will he be counted as another (paired) user?

It can only be paired to one iPhone at a time. But can be shared as shown above.

When shared with another user, the AirTag will not make a sound or issue notifications if traveling with an Apple device of the user it is shared with.

It will make a sound and issue notifications if neither your device nor the borrower's device are nearby.

Yes. If traveling without the paired iPhone nearby, it will always make a sound to alert people nearby, to avoid illegal and unwanted tacking. No, there is no way to disable this sound. As it is integral to the Unwanted tracking protection feature.

Also yes. Any iPhone, iPad or Mac nearby will receive a notification of an Airtag traveling with them that is not near its paired iPhone.

No. Not really recommended for that purpose. The AirTag is designed to track property. Not as mementos for people, nor as actual key chains unless near the paired iPhone.
