Airdrop from Mac to iPhone doesn't show app options anymore

When I airdrop a file (m4b) from my Mac to my iPhone (14 Pro, iOS17), no options for apps to send the file show up on my iPhone. Before upgrading my phone/iOS, a list of associated apps used to show up on my phone, and I could send the file directly to the app. Now the file goes to the Files app and I then have to import it to the app I want to use to play the file.

Is there a way to regain the old functionality?

Thanks!

In this case, it's an audio file (m4b)

The list of apps (as shown in your screenshot) isn't showing up - that is the problem. On my old iOS/iPhone (16.something, iPhone 11 Pro), that list would show up and I would select the app I wanted. Now, the list doesn't show up and the file automatically goes to the Files app. I then have to import it from within the app I want to use it. The extra step isn't that big of a deal, but it is a little annoying - and I assume that's not how it's supposed to work.

What type of Image Data are you trying to transfer? Where do want to store it? Do you have a compatible App for storing the data/image being transferred?

For example, if you are AirDropping MP3 files.

The storing process entirely depends on the apps that you have on your device to store and play mp3 files.

See the pic below. I have many other apps which can store and play these files including Apple Files App. If you only have one app say, WhatsApp then there is nothing for the iPhone to get permission for, from the user.

It will open WhatsApp and Store it there else it would seek your permission as in the GIF below.
