XQuartz freezes when used on Ventura

When I run an XQuartz xterm (or several of them) on Ventura the XQuartz windows all freeze at the same after about 2 to 10 minutes. A Force Quit is the only solution. I work on a software product that is available on a variety of other systems. I do most of my development on my Mac but I use X windows and xterm-s to do building/testing/debugging on servers running the other OS systems.


I am told that this issue is not a problem on Monterey or Big Sur so I want to downgrade. However, my attempt to downgrade to Monterey booting Install mcOS Monterey.app from a usb drive informs me that a downgrade is not possible. I either need a working XQuartz for Ventura or I need to downgrade to a MacOS that supports XQuartz.
