My ipad got stuck inside apple mail. I can not get out of it. I can not even power it off (by pressing the top key). But the email works, I can still view email, write email. If I hit the top key, the screen will go dark and I can use the home key to get back to email app or use the camera. I can not do anything else. Does anyone know how to solve the problem.

Try a forced-restart of your iPad - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:
Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)
If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:
Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)
Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
