Placing portrait photos into iMovie on iPhone

iMovie allows addition of portrait video to be added and zoomed out adding black bars. However when adding photos there is no magnifying glass to zoom out and do the same with a photo that you can with a video and get full image with black bars. This seems like a terrible flaw in iMovie on iPhone.

Yes, it appears that the zoom out feature does not appear for photos in iMovie for iOS.


If you have a Mac, you could use Photos for Mac to create a one-photo slideshow, using the Classic theme, that you can export to your desktop as a video. That turns the photo into a video. Then import the video into your iPhone iMovie. That should give you the zoom out option as with any other video. It might be worth a try.
