I have a question for you (because I am new to Apple but researching to find an answer for you): Did your iphone receive a Software Update notification? Because today mine did and it updated to iOS 17.1. I did much research and posted the best information I read for your review. But the blue link above may solve your problem.

1. I browsed for answers about iphone 6s Plus regarding updating to iOS 15 and I found this detailed answer which indicates the following: (I copied & pasted it for you here). I see you indicate you have iOS 14 & this answer indicates your phone can only update to iOS 12.5.7. I am hoping the blue links will give you more info.
