I just upgraded to Sonoma and I'm no longer able to view star ratings for songs when in album view. The best I can tell, you can only view and edit star ratings when in song view. Is this a permanent change? I prefer album view but I still want to be able to rate and see my song ratings.

Any new information or insights on this issue? It has suddenly cropped up with my library. I'm using Music v. 1.4.2.83 on a Mac laptop running Sonoma 14.2.1. I have literally zero idea what activity might have prompted this change in rating display behavior. No recent library backups or restores, software upgrades, etc. The ratings displayed as per usual in album view as recently as the last week in December of 2023.

Yes, this appears to be a bug/feature in the current build that only allows access to star ratings if you're signed in as a user with an Apple Music(/iTunes Match?) subscription.
You should use Feedback - Apple Music - Apple to let Apple know you'd like your ratings to be restored.

Hey I'm having the same problem too. I reset my Mac as a new device and then restored my music library from a Time Machine backup. I don't have any star ratings unless I change the view. There aren't any ratings options when I press the 3 dots icon either.
I tried opening Music in safe mode, but that didn't do anything. My Mac is currently running OS 14.2.1 and Music Version: 1.4.2.83
Before resetting my Mac, I had ratings appear as normal. I didn't update the OS to my knowledge between the reset
Hi, thanks for the response, but what you're describing is not what I'm seeing. I've attached a couple of screen shots. One shows what my album view currently looks like, and one shows how the view options are greyed out when I'm in Album view.
Odd, this is what I see:
You might try holding down option+cmd as you launch Music which should open it in its safe mode and can sometimes correct odd issues with the library. What build of Sonoma are you running?

Hi,
I'm using Sonoma and I can edit song ratings while in the albums view. They should show up in the fifth column in from the right, before any clean/explicit mark, download arrow, duration, and then the ellipsis menu. Active when your cursor is hovering over a particular track. You do need to have Star Ratings enabled in settings/preferences.

That is very different. I'm on 14.1. And Apple Music 1.4.1.29
I'm running a slightly different build. Hopefully it resolves for you on the next update.
