Artist missing in search on iphone 15 Pro Max music

When I search for a particular artist in Music on my iphone, nothing shows up. The albums they've released show up, as do playlists I've made featuring that artist. It's not, repeat NOT, an issue with Compilations (the artist has put out albums under their own name). I've checked "Song Info" and verified the artist name under "Sort As". All my music comes through iTunes from files on my HD - nothing is in the cloud.

I just upgraded to the iPhone 15 Pro Max from a 13 Pro Max (both 512GB). I've done a full restore from backup from the 13 Pro Max, and done fresh back-ups & syncs several times, but still nothing. Everything was fine on my 13. There has to be a setting on the 15 that will show all the music artists on the phone, but I can't figure out what it is!

In the pic: the artist is "Tritonal", but as you can see, the search results only show albums, playlists and compilations. Where is "Artist"?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I was able to fix mine (at last!): in iTunes, I selected all the tracks of the artist that weren’t showing up on my iPhone. I selected “Get Info”, then went to “Sorting”. Under “Artist Album”, I typed in the name of the artist. After syncing again, the artist showed up in search!

I really dug into this. I noticed this during recent updates of OS. All the artist that went missing were in a compilation album of some sorts. To resolve, I temporarily deleted the compilation albums. Then went in and compared my iPhone artist list to my computer iTunes list. All artist that were missing I added a space at the end of each artist name. I am assuming there is a conflict with artist names. I highlighted all song by artist and checked info. Added a space to the artist name. After adding the space and re-syncing the phone all artist appeared again. Hope this helps.

Similar experience here, but no answer. Upgraded 12 Pro Max to 15 Pro Max, both 512GB. Copied my ALAC files from my PC using the latest iTunes. iTunes shows the files are on the phone, but quite a few Artists don’t show up in the Artist list. They don’t appear if you search the artist list. Funny thing, if you switch to the Album list you can search for Artist or Album and they show up, and play! So they are on the phone.

Went through the same sync, delete, check, meta data, re-sync several times as you did, with no luck. It appears random, at least I couldn’t find a pattern to what showed up and what didn’t.

Everything worked on the iPhone 12 pro max fine. The ALAC files have not changed since that time.

Hi, I’m having the same issue having just upgraded to iPhone 14 & restoring from backup of my 12. I have tried syncing multiple times, changing the name of the artist & changing back again but nothing seems to work. I tried what you mentioned above in the album artist field under sorting but mine are already populated with the album artist. I’ve also called apple support but they first told me to delete my music app then reinstall & re sync, then to reset the phone, I have tried both but no change.

I have this problem but on an iPhone 14 Pro.

A number of artists (not sure how many... Abba, Adolescents, Bad Brains, ... ? no seeming pattern around album artist, id3 tag, format, etc) do not show in the Artists view on the iPhone Music app, but the albums can be found under the Album view. I've tried a number of things as suggested here but nothing has fixed any of the problematic artists.

This is what I learned. Apparently artists can request if an album title in your itunes matches an actual album title that the artist's album cover be used in place of your itunes picture (the one you personally set up) during the synchronization. Thus on my latest synch Aerosmith, America, and approx. 30 of my 1200 artists showed album covers on my iphone in place of my art. A simple work around is to go to into your itunes library and add a space at the end of the Album title (I did it for artist also so they match) and simply re-synch. Since the name "Aerosmith " no longer matches the album titled "Aerosmith" the synch chose my album art so now my iphone matches my itunes album art.
