iPad crashes/restarts when in-app ads play

My iPad (gen 6, iPad-OS 17.1) crashes and reboots randomly during use, but most frequently when an ad gets played in an app.

I have tried:

• DFU update/restore: no effect
• Turn off Background App Refresh: Before turning this setting off, my iPad was also crashing/rebooting when it was locked and not being used. Now my iPad no longer crashes when locked, only when actually being used.

Does anyone know what might be causing these crashes and what I can do in order to solve this problem?
