Stop Finder creating "folders"

Just gone from High Sierra to Monterey. Finder creates weird "folders". If I e.g. drag a couple of images to desktop, Finder creates something it calls "Images" which I need to open. It has created other "folders" such as "Today", "Developer", etc.

How/where can I stop this from happening?

Earlier Mac models
